SEO pricing in Zimbabwe is one of the most confusing topics for business owners. Some agencies charge US$50 a month and promise the moon. Others charge US$2,000 and deliver less than the cheap one. Here is how to read the market and pay a fair price.

Typical monthly SEO retainers

Real SEO retainers in Zimbabwe usually fall into three brackets. Local SEO for a small business runs from US$300 to US$500 a month. Standard SEO for a growing business sits between US$600 and US$1,000. Advanced SEO for ecommerce, multi-location or competitive niches starts at US$1,200 and can rise to US$2,500.

Anything under US$200 a month is usually a low-effort package of a few backlinks and some directory submissions. It will not move the needle.

What should be included

A proper SEO retainer should always include monthly technical checks, on-page optimisation of new and existing pages, content writing or content briefs, internal linking improvements, link building, Google Business Profile management, and a clear monthly report. If any of those are missing, ask why.

Sometimes a one-off project makes more sense than a retainer. A full SEO audit costs from US$300 to US$700 depending on site size. A keyword research and content strategy project costs around US$400. A site migration with SEO protection runs US$500 to US$1,500.

SEO is an investment, not an expense. A new ranking that brings in two extra clients a month at US$500 each pays for a US$700 retainer many times over. The trick is to track the right numbers — leads, calls, bookings and revenue — not just rankings or traffic.

Red flags to avoid

Run away from anyone who guarantees a number one ranking, anyone who refuses to explain what they do each month, and anyone who insists on owning your Google Search Console or domain. Your SEO partner should be transparent and you should always own everything.

How to get started cheaply
